RIP, Spencer Davis

Written by

Another legendary musician will now be playing in Heaven's Rock & Roll Band. Spencer Davis, leader and guitarist of the popular 1960s British beat band The Spencer Davis Group, died in a hospital on Monday while being treated for pneumonia. He was 81. The band formed in 1963 and boasted the talents of Steve Winwood who would later go on to join Traffic and Blind Faith. Winwood's older brother Muff was also in The Spencer Davis Group and legend has it Mother Winwood insisted Muff join the band so he could keep an eye out for his very young, very talented, boy-genius of a brother.

Check out this video of their biggest hit "Gimme Some Lovin'". You can clearly see how much fun they were having shooting it and who can resist Steve Winwood's soulful vocals and that screaming Hammond B3 organ. Rest in peace, Spencer Davis.
