The greatest might be here in our own backyard. America's Greatest Detective, that is. The Akron Police Department employs 88 detectives, and one of their own is up for title. Dr. Troy looney is a 31-year veteran of the force. He is one of three finalists competing, if you wanna call it that, for the distinction.
Dr. Looney was nominated based on his career of impeccable service, but also for his work on the high-profile Stanley Ford murder case. Ford set fires in April of 2016 and May of 2017 that resulted in the deaths of nine people-- five of which were children. Ford was convicted in 2021 and received nine life sentences.
Dr. Looney currently works in financial crimes. He's also a profess at The University of Akron and is an author.
The winner will be announced between September 22 - 24th in Orlando. If he wins, Dr. Looney plans on using the $5,000 prize to establish a scholarship in the names of the five children that were Ford's victims.
Fingers crossed and prayers up that Dr. Looney wins this well-deserved honor!
