    March 2020 Winner - Erin Stock

    KWR2019 EvanErin Stock is very involved at school. Activities include varsity participation in cheerleading, cross country, track. She is also a student ambassador and a frequent volunteer at Peter Maurin. Last year, Erin chose to spend her spring break in a poor area of Sarasota, Florida. She helped those in need of food, clothing, and shelter. Greatly influenced by the trip, she is again choosing a Spring break mission trip this year to serve a Native American Reservation in Arizona. Through volunteering, Erin has discovered that pure happiness doesn’t come from materialistic things, but from helping others. Congratulations, Erin!

    February 2020 Winner - Jahiem Peake

    KWR2019 EvanJahiem is exceptional! He is focused on improving the lives of others. He volunteered hundreds of hours at Akron Children's and Summa Health, coordinated three blood drives, adopted families for Christmas the past three years, providing toys, food and household goods, helped Elves and More distribute bikes several times and served at the Soap Box Derby twice. Jahiem wrestled and played football four years at STVM, was team captain and named All State for football this year, received the Presidential Service Award three times, was recognized by the Akron Touchdown Club and plans to study nursing at John Carroll. Congratulations, Jahiem!

    January 2020 Winner - Brett Erhard

    KWR2019 EvanBrett attends Cuyahoga Falls High School. He is a 2-year member of NHS, Golf team Captain and 4-year veteran of the golf team, 4-year member of the Cuyahoga Falls Marching Band, and an 8-year member of the Cuyahoga Falls Concert Band. Brett has attended the Engineering academy at Kent Roosevelt High School for the last 2 years. Brett also volunteers with veterans and the elderly at the Laurel Lake Retirement Community. He is a State and Nationally ranked Archer, and is a 7-year member and coach at his archery club. All of this while maintaining a 4.0 or better GPA. Way to go, Brett!

    December 2019 Winner - Lilly Oldham

    KWR2019 EvanAn incredible artist and performer, Lilly would like to pursue a career in Biomedical Illustration. She has been part of ETC Show Choir for 9 years. Her senior year started with her sister, Molly being diagnosed with a rare brain cancer which turned sister into caregiver as she was by her side daily at surgery, appointments and treatments. Lilly has been a source of help and care for our entire family and she rocks on stage as a performer but rocks more at home as her sisters best friend, sacrificing much to help her sister heal.

    November 2019 Winner - Evan Kelsey

    KWR2019 EvanEvan was the Senior Captain of the soccer team and selected to be on the County All Star Team. He is Vice President of the Animal Science program at Canton South High School where he is a NTHS Member. At Perry he is a member of the NHS with a 3.85 GPA. He works part time at Pets Supplies Plus taking care of the live animal section. He volunteers at local food pantries, and the Stark County Human Society. He also has set up small animal shows for children with disabilities.He plans on studying animal behavior in college.

    October 2019 Winner - Makenzie Ann Compson

    KWR2019 tylerMakenzie Compson is senior at Glen Oak High School. She is involved in the school color guard and school dance company. She has landed the lead role in the school ballet as Cinderella. Makenzie volunteers at her church working with the children during service, at Avondale Elementary working with the teachers, reading and helping the students and volunteers at the Special Olympics each year. Plus Makenzie still finds time to work at Chik FIL-A and teach dance all while maintaining excellent grades. Her plan is to be a special education teacher.

    September 2019 Winner - Tyler Hoxworth

    KWR2019 tylerTyler is a leader on the field and in the classroom. He takes AP and College Credit Plus classes, and has a 4.30 GPA. He is a member of NHS, a Spartan Mentor, and Senior Class Council. His teachers chose him as a Junior Leadership of Akron recipient, and Mike DeWine Ambassador. Tyler is a captain on his varsity soccer team, and also plays varsity golf and basketball. In his spare time, Tyler can be found working at Congress Lake Gold Course, and volunteering at the Cleveland Clinic Challenge Golf Course, helping those with disabilities golf.

    Kids Who Rock Contest Rules

    WONE “Kids Who Rock” shall recognize certain high school seniors, during the school year of 2019-­2020, who have excelled in music, theater, student government, and/or who possess great leadership skills. One student will be chosen each month by the "Kids Who Rock Selection Committee," which is comprised of members of Rubber City Radio Group. Interested students shall forward a written nomination/submission of 97 words or less in order to be considered. All entries shall remain under consideration until the end of the school year. All selections are final and at the discretion of the committee. 

    Kids Who Rock Scholarship Winners, or their parents or guardians will be required to sign a release allowing WONE to use the student's name and likeness on the radio station and on line, and to acknowledge any potential tax liability. WONE may be required to file an IRS Form 1099 on behalf of the winner of any items having a value of more than $600.

    Winners will be recognized at the end of the 2020 school year. Attendance is encouraged but not mandatory. Each student will be awarded the Kids Who Rock scholarship in the amount of $1,000. All monies will be disbursed in the summer of 2020 and sent directly to the post-secondary institution where the student has enrolled and been accepted. Post-secondary institutions can be 2-year, 4-year, or trade school. If the award is not claimed within one year of graduation, it will be forfeited.

    No purchase is necessary in order to win any WONE contest. Generally, only one listener from any household is permitted to win a prize from WONE in any 30 ​day period. However, in the event a member of a household has won a “minor” prize from WONE (tickets, t­shirts, CDs, dinners, etc.), that shall not preclude someone in that household from being a winner in Kids Who Rock. Anyone may win except employees (or the immediate family members) of the Rubber City Radio Group, or any advertising agency, or advertiser connected to the promotion.

    WONE reserves the right to make changes to the rules of “Kids Who Rock” at any time during the execution of the promotion. In such cases, the change(s) shall be posted to the contest rules page at, and will be made available at our reception desk at 1795 West Market St., Akron, OH 44313.
